About Us

The Ōtara Pool and Leisure Centre has been a hub of activity for the Ōtara community for over 30 years. Located across from the Ōtara town centre, the Ōtara Pool and Leisure Centre offers something for the whole family.

We’ve worked with diverse families and age groups ranging from early childhood to the elderly for over 30 years and know how to make getting active easy and fun.

All our staff are qualified, have a current first aid certificate and are police vetted in compliance with requirements of the 2014 Vulnerable Children’s Act.

Our facilities

We have three indoor pools – a 25m indoor swimming pool for lane swimming, a 15m teaching pool and a dedicated toddler’s pool, plus an outdoor pool for summer fun. We also offer a fully equipped fitness centre, recreation stadium and early childhood centre.

Before and after school care

Do you need some help taking care of your kids before and after school? Book them into our after-school programme and we’ll take care of them for you. It’s affordable and easy – we even pick the kids up from selected local schools. We’ll give them afternoon tea and supervise them while they enjoy a range of activities including sports, reading, homework, arts and crafts.

School holiday programme

Keep your kids safe and entertained during the school holidays with our school holiday programmes! Our experienced staff keep your children having fun, learning new things, making new friends and growing their confidence – all in their local community.

Preschool programmes

Our preschool programmes help children explore and develop fundamental movements they’ll use in sports activities and gymnastics, including balance, coordination, passing, catching, hitting and kicking. We currently have on offer our Muddy footprints, Sporty Spots and Tumble Tots preschool programmes.

Swimming lessons

SwimGym is our resident swim school, providing swimming lessons for babies, children and adults. Groups and private classes are available.

Physical environment

The Ōtara Pool and Leisure Centre is situated across the road from the Ōtara town centre with plenty of free parking.

We welcome everyone regardless of ability. Otara Pool and Leisure Centre is an accessible centre, with a water wheelchair available, a pool hoist in the spa pools, and ramp access to our indoor lap pool.

There are disabled access changing rooms. Please note that there is no disabled access to the outdoor pool.

Our welcoming and friendly staff are proud to have worked in the Ōtara community for more than 30 years. Our centre has something for the whole family to enjoy, whether it be in our early childhood centre, junior swimming lessons, before or afterschool care and our fully equipped fitness centre.
