About Us

Lyndal Henry OT trained as an occupational Therapist in NZ graduating in 1982. Working in Cognitive rehabilitation for people with brain injuries and upper limb rehabilitation. Her post grad training included cognitive rehabilitation and attention training, Autism, sensory processing, Tomatis and Soundsory Programmes, retained reflexes and how to help treat these. Lyndal has been in private practise since 2004.

Relax, slow down and Focus

Lyndal trained before medications came in, so she learned to work with children with ADHD and help them to relax and to slow down and focus. Because many

of the children have anxiety we start with building a good relationship and doing fun and relaxation before we start doing more challenging work. Following the Ayres Sensory integration approach which is very child led, we begin with an assessment and then a report outlining the results and recommendations.

Ongoing therapy is carried out at our clinic or sometimes at their home or in the school setting. We have a range of fun swings, movement toys to sit on and ride, zorb balls, sensory games of many types and a sensory room.

We usually do movement activities to warm up (jumping onto the big pillows, riding the ez roller or one of the swings) then specific activities according to individual need like sand art, scratchy picture, rice search, feely bags, water and ice play, tabletop games. The goal is to have FUN and they will grow and develop skills without feeling forced to do therapy.

Physical environment

We have two rooms and an outside area we can use. A toilet is available.

There is limited parking for one or two cars at a time.

Atmosphere

Parents/caregivers are welcome to stay and participate in all sessions. For children under five it is preferred for parents or caregiver to stay with the child. We have chairs and big cushions they can sit on, we have access to cold water.
