Helen O’Grady Drama Academy – East Auckland

About Us

The Helen O’Grady Drama Academy presently helps over 70,000 children every week in 37 countries.

Helen O’Grady, a New Zealander, started after school classes in Australia in 1979. A trained teacher, drama teacher and actress, her aims were to provide a self-development programme through drama for children, to encourage ongoing confidence, self-esteem and verbal communication skills.

Debbie Napier, the Auckland Central and South Principal, is a registered teacher, with teaching experience in the primary and secondary sectors and 23 years teaching the Helen O’Grady Drama classes.

Debbie trains, co-ordinates and supervises a team of dedicated and enthusiastic teachers, passionate about drama and with specialist training in the Helen O’Grady Drama system. Most have teaching and theatrical experience gained in schools and the performing arts. Debbie says, “I love to see children blossom into the very best they can be and our program does that.”

Drama Skills and More

We provide a safe, fun environment, managed carefully to ensure everyone respects one another. Every class has a full lesson plan, ensuring the children enjoy well run and structured classes.

No previous acting experience is necessary, the emphasis is on encouraging children to develop their imagination and enthusiasm at a level that works for them. In the fourth term, all classes present their end of year productions for family and friends.

Parents and teachers regularly tell us about the positive life changes, advanced social skills and improvement in academic ability they see in children who attend our programme.

Physical environment and atmosphere

Classes are held in schools and halls throughout Auckland.

Our classes are high impact and capture the attention of the children instantly. Children feel safe and readily grow beyond themselves in our warm, enthusiastic care.

Most importantly, our classes are fun!

We have an instalment plan helping you to spread the fees over the term.

If you would like your child to join the most popular drama academy in the world, to perform, learn to speak well, learn skills to help them on leaving school, and have great fun at the same time, then act now! Your child will develop the excellent social skills needed in everyday life.

“Thank you for giving our daughter much more confidence. She has shown her Drama skills at school, where her clear voice and manner have enabled her to shine above her peers. She has loved her lessons.”

“Thank you for being the most fabulous Drama teacher this past year, and for all the wisdom and expertise you shared with me. I will never ever forget the things you taught me or the fun times I shared with the class.”
Student

“Since T. has attended Helen O’Grady Drama Academy, he has developed into a confident boy, able to communicate amongst both his peers and adults alike. School speeches have been a breeze for him. I feel very proud to introduce my son into any group of adults, as he shakes hands, makes eye contact and confidently presents himself. We have been thrilled with the high calibre of teachers and their dedicated involvement with this stimulating programme.”

“K. is keen to continue with Drama next year. I was so impressed with how far she has come in just one term, and I thought she projected her voice well and appeared confident. Great work by your team!”

I’d like to thank you for all you’ve helped G to learn since she was 5. Her oral presentation skills in speech competitions are brilliant, thanks to your programme, and she thoroughly enjoys being on stage.
Dianna

We would like to thank you and the teachers for the help you have given Nathaniel over the last 4+ years. He has come along way since the beginning and is turning into a confident young man and believe we would not be where we are today without this class. He has really enjoyed his time and we wish you all the best.
