Interfusion Dance Studio

Interfusion Dance Studio

Interfusion Dance was established in 2011, in Howick, East Auckland. We aim to provide a fun and nurturing dance environment for children from the age of 2 years and offer training in a range of styles, including exam and competition classes.

Chanelle Mansell – Director/Teacher

A registered Royal Academy of Dancing teacher, Chanelle has been dancing since the age of 3. In 2002, Chanelle was accepted into the Youth Dance Company of Tshwane, where she worked her way up from being part of the corps de ballet, to soloist, to principal ballerina.

After finishing school, she went on to audition for and gain a place at the South African Ballet Company where only 5 people a year were accepted. In 2010, Chanelle began teaching ballet for Kim Hoeft Dance Studio and the following year was asked to purchase the studio which is now known as Interfusion Dance Studio.

Emily McDonald – Jazz and Ballet Teacher

Emily was born in Auckland, New Zealand. She started dancing at the age of 3 at Sue Bartley Smiths ballet academy and continued there until she was 8. Emily moved to Nicola Wheelers Dance Academy in 2006 where she learnt jazz. She was then asked to join the junior competition troupe. She received honours for all her jazz exams.

Over the years Emily has tried many styles of dance including; Irish, hip hop, ballet, jazz, contemporary and lyrical. She has also competed as a jazz soloist. Emily decided to pick up ballet again in 2012 to help improve her technique and control. In 2013 she moved to Storm Dance Studio, where she was apart of the elite senior lyrical troupe, where they placed 1st at each competition they were entered in apart from one where they placed 2nd. Emily studied at Botany Downs Secondary College where each year she has been nominated for the Arts Cup, and won this award in 2011.

She has studied dance at NCEA level 1, 2 and 3, receiving straight excellences in all the practical assessments. In 2015 Emily was one of the four leaders and choreographers of the schools Stage Challenge production. She has also choreographed pieces for Shelly Park Primary School’s dance festival, and BDSC’s dance production ‘Pulse’. This year Emily is beginning a bachelor of Science majoring in Biomedical science at the University of Auckland.

Classes
‘La Beautè’ – The Royal Academy of Dance

The Royal Academy of Dance is one of the world’s most influential dance education organisations. Their exams set standards in classical ballet worldwide and they are a global leader in dance education and continuing professional development for dance.

Jazz Addict

The levels are made up of a series of exercises including arm combinations, classical technique, floorwork, turns, isolations, leaps, amalgamations and dances.

There is opportunity for the teacher to stylise many of the exercises with their own head and arm-lines. All work is progressive and designed to develop co-ordination, strength, agility and style.

Amalgamations include jazz, musical theatre, lyrical and contemporary. These styles complement competition/eisteddfod requirements. The teacher sets the dance and must incorporate compulsory steps.

Students can enter the syllabus at any age (and ability) at a level recommended by the teacher. Candidates sitting Advanced Jazz Two onwards must have sat and passed the previous grade as a prerequisite (ie. Advanced Jazz One).

Body Conditioning

Body Conditioning will help tone dancers as well as help them build strength and flexibility.

Our classes are aimed at showing dancers how to stretch properly and safely and the importance of warming up before exercise and cooling down afterwards.

In our body conditioning classes, students develop their core strength and learn how to use their flexibility in the correct way when dancing or performing tricks.

Turns and Leaps Class

This class is a dance technique class that is dedicating to learning, improving and perfecting technique in jumps, kicks, turns, spins, strength and conditioning.

Core work is also combined to improve dancers’ power. Our Leaps & Turns class is a great technique class to add to the foundation of any other forms of dance you are taking.

We are based in two locations in the East Auckland area, teaching from Shelly Park Primary School and Somerville Intermediate. Come and join us!

“Fantastic teachers & convenient locations. I would highly recommend this studio to any parent looking to introduce their child to dance. My daughter has gained so much self-confidence over the years being with Interfusion. The end of year show is always amazing and a fantastic show case of the children’s achievements.”
