My son has been coming to Corinne for the last 4 months since he turned 4 years old. He was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder at age 3 and a half. His speech and learning is delayed by about a year. We are based in Wellington but it is well worth the 50 minute trip once a week. My son loves Corinne and and his face lights up when he sees her. He is so excited when it is “Corinne day!” Corinne has developed a strong relationship with my son. She is kind, but pushes him to achieve and pushes past his demand avoidance.

Initially he was overly excitable and found it hard to keep still, running from one place to the next. He would stay with each structured activity for less than 1 minute. He would get frustrated easily and his communication was limited. He was also working on toilet learning. Because of these factors, Corinne first of all worked on emotional regulation. Amazingly in 3 short months my son could self regulate and has been able to say when he is tired or when he needs to rest or have a spin on the swing. He will take himself of his own volition off for a lie down. The low light and soft music calms his sensory system overloaded from dealing with the everyday world.

As well, he has become more comfortable in expressing his feelings. He can say ‘i’m sad,’ ‘im happy’ and notices these feelings in others noticeably his sister. Since coming to Corrine’s we got him a swing for at home too which he loves. Now that he is calmer, he has been able to partake in play therapy.

Corrine’s play therapy is child lead. He can choose the activity that most takes his interest. His fine motor skills are increasing as Corinne works on these with him whether through art or building activities which he loves and I am confident he will have the basic skills in place before school next year. Corinne is full of ideas to implement at home too and this has been invaluable for the consistency between daycare, home and Corinnes sensory room.

I really can’t recommend Corinnes full integration therapy enough.
