Could it be ADHD?

A quick guide for parents

ADHD (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder) isn’t just about being energetic, it’s a brain-based condition that affects attention, self-control and organisation. It can show up differently in each child, some are always on the go, others seem distracted or daydreamy.

Does your child often…

  1. Struggle to sit still – fidgeting, wriggling, or tapping constantly?
  2. Seem to act before thinking – blurting out or interrupting a lot?
  3. Find it hard to focus for more than a few minutes on tasks or instructions?
  4. Jump from one activity to another without finishing anything?
  5. Seem forgetful – losing things or forgetting steps in a routine?
  6. Get easily distracted by sounds, sights or other people?
  7. Struggle to follow multi-step instructions?
  8. Get frustrated quickly or have intense emotional reactions?
  9. Seem ‘tuned out’ in conversations or during schoolwork?
  10. Show signs of being disorganised – messy bag, lost shoes, forgotten homework?

If you answered YES to 6 or more…

It could be worth talking with your child’s teacher, SENCO or GP. Early support makes a big difference.
