Could it be ADHD?
A quick guide for parents
ADHD (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder) isn’t just about being energetic, it’s a brain-based condition that affects attention, self-control and organisation. It can show up differently in each child, some are always on the go, others seem distracted or daydreamy.
Does your child often…
- Struggle to sit still – fidgeting, wriggling, or tapping constantly?
- Seem to act before thinking – blurting out or interrupting a lot?
- Find it hard to focus for more than a few minutes on tasks or instructions?
- Jump from one activity to another without finishing anything?
- Seem forgetful – losing things or forgetting steps in a routine?
- Get easily distracted by sounds, sights or other people?
- Struggle to follow multi-step instructions?
- Get frustrated quickly or have intense emotional reactions?
- Seem ‘tuned out’ in conversations or during schoolwork?
- Show signs of being disorganised – messy bag, lost shoes, forgotten homework?
