About Us

With a long history in Christchurch and in the field of optics, dating back to 1886 in fact, we remain committed to providing our local community with quality vision and eye health care.

Each member of our team of optometrists specialises in children’s eye health and care and want to make a difference for children, in both their learning and sporting success. Being able to make a difference in children’s lives is important to us.

We have a range of services focussing specifically on children’s vision and eye care needs.

These include Schoolvision® assessments, complemented by Behavioural Optometry to diagnose and remediate learning difficulties through Vision Therapy, offering Sportvision® evaluation and therapy, and tinted lenses and overlays for the classroom for those identified with Irlen Syndrome.

How we can help your child

Through our range of assessment and treatment services, we help school children gain self-confidence by reaching their full learning potential through meeting their vision and eye care needs.

Schoolvision® assessments are 45 minutes long and incorporate the standard eye examination along with specific testing relating to difficulties at school, muscle balance, dominant eye, binocular vision, reading speed, colour preference and light sensitivity. A Schoolvision® assessment identifies the root cause of eye muscular instability and targets the area for improvement. The prescription trains the visual system how to focus and co-ordinate accurately.

Our Physical environment

In our new purpose-built premises, we have state of the art instrumentation, including OCT imaging, Retinal photographs, and Corneal Topography, to work with patients to best meet their vision and eye care needs. We have a huge range of eyewear to choose from and provide advice and guidance when it comes time to make your choice.
We have a spacious waiting room that includes a playroom area to help children feel comfortable and relaxed during their visit.

Our practice offers space for off street parking and has easy access to the building.

Our Atmosphere

Because of our commitment to assessing and treating the vision and eye health needs of children, we were one of the first practices in New Zealand to be specifically designed with the needs of young children and their parents in mind. We are proud to have a designated play area for children and their siblings as part of the relaxed and welcoming atmosphere we have created.
