About Us
Randi Sylte-Robins has always loved working with children, through Space, Playcentre, Kindergarten and special needs. Her love of numbers led her to work for many years in accounting. Being a mum at home and her children becoming more independent, Randi needed a challenge that worked with her love of numbers, her teaching experience and being at home. Maths tuition met all her needs and so she joined mathZwise 2 years ago and is now an independent tutor.
Making Maths Fun
The mathZwise system is designed primarily to make Maths fun and understandable. Each lesson is planned to be as stimulating and enjoyable as possible using a variety of activities and resources. Randi will work hard to get to know your child’s learning style so that they will want to learn. Your child will have their own exercise book and will be given stickers for their efforts. Each session ends with a game involving numbers which will challenge your child but be fun.
Your child will bring home their study book after each session, so you will be able to see the work they have been doing and how they are progressing. The lessons are personalised to each child’s needs and of course follow the NZ curriculum. Our lessons are generally Monday to Friday between 3.00pm and 8.15pm but other times can be made by arrangement, even early morning and school holidays. Lessons are for one hour and all materials are supplied.
If your child is studying for NCEA exams and have just one topic that needs explaining, then we can help with just one or two lessons rather than a whole term.
Physical environment
The maths room is in a unit behind Randi’s home which is warm and welcoming to children. There is access to a bathroom and a sitting area for carers to sit. The area is welcoming to children and there are many resources to keep your child engaged.
Atmosphere
Randi likes to meet with the child and parent/careers. This meeting is to see if the child feels comfortable and happy with her as this bond is important. A free assessment is provided and there is no obligation to sign up.
