QV Therapeutic Perspectives

About Us

QVTP Managing Director and practitioner is Stephen de Quincey (Bachelor Social Work (Hon), Post Grad Diploma Counselling, Master Counselling). Stephen has worked with youth since 1996, though he was already involved in community groups providing youth programmes since 1988. Stephen is also a father of 3 and grandfather multiple times. He is a full member of The New Zealand Association of Counsellors.

Since 2000, his growing skills, qualifications and ongoing professional development have empowered him to practice in a wide range of therapies and artistically creative modalities. Hypnotherapy and EMDR are also offered for anxiety, phobia and trauma work.

Through QVTP, Stephen has provided programs and/or services to many other agencies (i.e.ManAlive, North Harbour Living without Violence, Strengthening Families, Raeburn House and Kidslink, etc.). This contracted work has included working in schools, providing group and 1:1 therapy sessions for youth. Stephen along with his wife Lynn have also created QVTP programme sessions which Stephen has used in his practice. Lynn is a Psychologist / Psychotherapist with decades of practice working with youth.

How you help children

My approach to treatment is integrative: I don’t have a “one size fits all” philosophy, I draw on a cross-section of therapies, incorporating classical, modern, and creative therapies. I have developed and implemented highly successful social skills, self worth / esteem and anger management interventions and programs, to help children, teens, adults, couples, and families change the way they relate to themselves and others. The interventions often use creative modalities and are interactive.

I communicate with youth on a level in which they can understand deeper complex issues and feel they are understood, heard and respected. I let clients guide my work and I empower them to move towards change while staying respectful and listening to their needs, fears, successes, and support systems. QVTP collaborate with their youth clients to open up pathways and perceptions to self healing. To explore and build all the dimensions and domains of their lives, to rethink their models of their internal and external worlds.

A high percentage of my business is from repeat clients and referrals from clients.

Physical environment

QVTP counselling room is spacious enough to run groups and has all amenities (private kitchen & bathroom). There is ample parking.

The one issue is it is upstairs so it does not cater for wheelchair access.

Atmosphere

I often will engage youth with art or games while we are exploring the areas they have come to see me about. Refreshments are always available. The place is bright and has lots of client artwork on the walls.

To discuss how I may help you or your child please call me for a confidential chat. I look forward to meeting with you. Please visit the QVTP website for more information http://qvtp.co.nz/youth-adolescence-therapy.
