About Us

Tena Koutou Katoa, Welcome to Friends on Fraser Educare. We have been providing our service in this community for over 10 years. Our owner operators are first and foremost TEACHERS.

After working in the industry for quite some time we wanted to provide a service that promoted the things that are important to us and provide that education in a way that we also saw as important.

Of our current teaching staff, 3 have been working here that whole time to provide a homely, peaceful, nurturing environment with lots of laughter and learning.

The Teachers at Friends on Fraser are enthusiastic, and we aim to have all permanent staff qualified or in training and endeavour to provide a strong bicultural presence in the centre.

How you help children

At Friends on Fraser Educare we believe that all children should be nurtured in a loving, respectful and stimulating environment that will build their self-esteem and self-confidence.

We believe in the rights of all children and we foster positive behaviour through modelling by teachers and peers.

Children learn through play and we will provide a safe, happy, supportive environment that empowers children to develop holistically. Building strong relationships with our families/whanau by working together and involving our wider community in our programme.

We have a strong emphasis on tuakana/teina relationships and the rich learning opportunities this provides. A range of resources are available to the children to learn through our play-based curriculum at their own pace. Having a mixed age centre, we are constantly adapting the wide range of experiences that we offer to suit the varied interests and abilities of the children who choose to take part in them.

Physical environment

Our centre is located in a converted house which adds to the home away from home feel. We have a large viewing window at the front of the building allowing children to farewell, greet parents and caregivers and watch the world outside our centre.

We go on outings into our local community including Pemberton Park – a sports park across the road and Yatton Park which has a playground and short bush walks.

Our large deck has a pergola cover to provide outdoor opportunities all year round. The rest of the outdoor space is a natural variety of surfaces – grass, sand, bark and dirt reminiscent of the traditional ‘Kiwi backyard’. We have a dedicated garden area containing a worm farm, fruit trees, vegetable garden and strawberry patch to work in and explore.

Atmosphere

We enjoy beginning to get to know new whānau during initial pre-enrolment visits, our existing whānau are also very welcoming and supportive of new whānau. We have an open-door policy which means whānau are welcome to visit at any time, have a play or have a coffee and rest on our comfy couch if that is what they need. The children are also quite used to having various family members come to spend time with our Friends on Fraser whānau.

We look forward to getting to know you and your child.

“When describing Friends on Fraser to others I say it’s like a home based enviroment, as children are nutured, cherished and supported as individuals as well as being part of a ‘team’!”
