Tui Ear Clinic has been operational since September 2016. We pride ourselves on providing a friendly, affordable and professional service that keeps our clients coming back for more. What sets us apart is the fact that we work in close partnership with our local doctors from Tui Medical. This allows us to provide a comprehensive service to our clients. Our Nurses have over 15 years’ combined experience in ear health.
A picture is worth a thousand words. At Tui Ear Clinic we use microscope technology from Carl Zeiss to make the most minute details and finest structures clearly visible. This enables us to visualise brilliant, high contrast true colour images, allowing our Nurses to see the finest details and ensures excellent service delivery. We also offer the option for parents and children to see the inside of their own ears and follow the procedure on a wall-mounted monitor.
The Right Tools for the Job
Our hearing is a very important sense and when our ears are not healthy it can affect behaviour, speech, learning and development to name but a few. We acknowledge that every child is unique and for this reason our nurses adapt their approach to each child to ensure a successful visit to get their ears looked at.
The nurse will take time to explain to you and your child exactly what is happening, what they are seeing and how any concerns can be addressed or treated. Our nurses are experienced in working with children using specialized equipment to look into ears and safely remove wax, assess eardrums and even do a hearing test if needed.
During the visit your child will be asked to sit on a special adjustable chair (little ones can sit on mum or dad’s lap if they are a bit nervous). The nurse will then gently hold on to the ear and focus a light (from the microscope) into the ear canal. This will allow a 10 times magnified view of the ear to see exactly what the problem is. The best part is that you will be able to see everything on a screen as well.
Little ears make wax to! Best to get those ears checked for wax or infection when listening is just not happening at home. It may be more than just a stage and we will be happy to assist in ruling out any underlying ear disease. It is also a good idea to get your child’s ears checked and cleaned before swimming starts to prevent canal infections.
To remove ear wax or debris from the ear canal the nurse will use either a small quiet instrument (almost like a spoon) or sometimes a small cannula that will “vacuum” the ear (this is called microsuctioning). The suction may be a bit noise and tickle the ear but there is no pain during the procedure.
Physical environment
Our clinic is in Rototuna with ample free parking available. We have modern up to date equipment to ensure a high standard service to our clients. There is also a bus stop just outside the front door.
Atmosphere
Our nurses are friendly and inviting and we all enjoy working with children. Most children do really well during their visits and very occasionally when someone is having a bit of a difficult day our nurses have strategies in place to work around this.
